Clinical Observation of the Short terns Chemothotherarpy on Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract
Ninety-three cases of fresh pulmonary tuberculosis were treated with INH, Rifampicin, Pyrazinamide and Streptomycin for 9 months and observed bacteriologically and radiologically with 3 months interval: 3,6 and 9 months.
Among 93 cases initially positive sputum culture for tubercle bacilli cases were 53 and negative cases were 40.
79% of 53 cases of initial culture positive were converted to negative within 3 months treatment 96% within 6 months and all negative within 9 months.
Improvement cases on chest X-ray were 84.9¡Æo in 3 months 965a¢¥ in 6 months and 9 months. Among 40 cases of initial culture negative cases improvement on chest X-ray were 52.5% in 3 months 75% in 6 months and 92.5% in 9 months by combined anti-tbc medication.
During period of treatment complications developed in which bullous change (8.6%) pleurisy (3.2%) and pneumothorax (3.2%) were noted and also side reactions to antituberculosis regimen developed in which gastrointestinal symptoms (11.8%) rash (9.7%) tinnitus(4.3%) fever and hepatitis were noted.
